Put away the pint of chocolate ice cream, hide The Notebook, and survive Valentine’s Day as a singleton with our guide to the top singles nights in Leeds this February.

Whether you’re searching for Mr or Mrs Right, a sucker for romance or simply tired of the sickly sweet tradition, don’t fear – we have the hottest events in Leeds for you this Valentine’s. Personally, I’m one for lying in bed and consuming my own body weight in chocolate, with only my fat pants and Hugh Grant for company, but this year I say no more. It’s time to embrace the independent woman within me and put a sharp end to the shower crying – or should I say wailing of ‘All By Myself’.

For The Single and Ready to Mingle

Leeds is full of opportunities to meet your other half this Valentine’s and thankfully not in that damp old community centre where the décor is almost as strange as that man in the corner talking to his shoes. This February we have a variety of club nights dedicated to helping singles find their perfect matches.

 Ditch or Date?

Where? At none other than one of the most stylish restaurant-bars in Leeds. At 7.40pm on February 14th, The Living Room is hosting a speed dating night for those looking to meet the guy or gal of their dreams. For £20 a head, you could go it alone or invite some friends for a brilliant night out.

Ditch Or Date is being held at The Living Room on the 14th February 2013 at 7.40pm with tickets costing £20

 Tiger Tiger Speed Dating

Tiger Tiger in Leeds is widely renowned for its fun vibe and social popularity. So if you’re aged 25-30, single and ready to meet someone, get yourself down there at 7.30pm on Valentine’s Day to see what – or should I say who is on offer. At £20 a ticket, I’d say it’s a must-try.

Slow Dating Speed Dating is being held at Tiger Tiger on the 14th February 2013 at 7.30pm with tickets costing £20.00

For Those Hopeless Romantics

If you’re looking for something to melt your heart or bring a tear to your eye, you should definitely check out these tear-jerking events this Valentine’s Day.

La Voix Humaine/ Dido Aerea’s Opera

After five years, a women’s lover abandons her for another, and leaves her broken hearted. Will she be able to mend it or has he broken it beyond repair?

La Voix Humaine, though short in length, packs a heart-wrenching punch. Opening on Valentine’s Day at the Grand Theatre Leeds, tickets range from £15-£60 and it’s a must-see. Just remember to bring your tissues.

La Voix Humaine is at Leeds Grand Theatre from 14th February 2013 to 23rd February 2013 and tickets start at £50 from the box office.

Wings of Desire

Hyde Park Picture House never fails to deliver. This year, they’re showing a wonderfully romantic piece by Wim Wenders. Wings of Desire is the Valentine’s special, showing at 8.00pm. A beautifully strong story of deep want and lust, as an angel struggles with his desires for love and happiness. Perfect for those who appreciate film as a work of art.

Wings of Desire is showing at Hyde Park Picture House on the 14th February 2013 at 8.00pm and tickets start at £4.50 from the website.

Don’t Care For Romance?

Don’t give a damn about Valentine’s Day or all that mush? We still have some great ideas for those who want to escape all the romance.

The Kaiser Chiefs Gig

The wonderfully talented Kaiser Chiefs are playing Manchester Apollo on 15th February with tickets starting at £28.50. Personally, I adore the Kaiser chiefs, so this is right up there on my list of Valentine’s alternatives.

Kaiser Chiefs are playing Manchester Apollo on Friday 15th February 2013 at 7.00pm with tickets starting at £28.50 from the box office.

Blue, An Aire Valley Arts Exhibition

Headingley Heart Centre is hosting an art exhibition full of beautiful pieces this Valentine’s day. Aire Valley Arts is a group of professional and semi-professional artists centered around the Aire Valley of West Yorkshire. They meet together to organise exhibitions, as a mutually supportive association. The group was formed in 1995 to pool resources, improve the status of the visual arts and of course, to create some wonderful artwork.

Blue Exhibition is showing at Headingley Heart Centre on the 14th February 2013 from 5.30 – 10.00 with free entry.

So however you feel about Valentine’s Day, whether you’re looking for love or trying to forget the date and just enjoy yourself, Leeds will not disappoint. Just make sure you book your Valentine’s adventures in advance, else it’s ice-cream and soppy movies, with the odd appearance from Celine Dion – and that’s not nearly as much fun as the events in town.
