If you're looking for the edgy, arty types you need to head up North to Shoreditch or Brick Lane where you can mix with the dirty pretty things and wax lyrical about the newest Banksy on your street. Start in one of the bars that dot Hoxton Square, Electricity Showrooms is always a good bet, packed full of singletons on the weekends and it turns into a club that runs until two on Friday and Saturday. If you aren't digging the vibe then the sultry Latin joint Favela Chic is just around the corner for a completely different feel is always packed with potential Latin lovers. Alternatively head to Brick lane where you can have a full night of fun contained within 50 meters of jam packed bars and clubs. Grab a seat outside or by a window and watch the parade of lovely northernites trapse by. Just make sure you end up in
93 Feet East, which always packs a crowd that never disappoints.
Benefits: Monday Sunday nonstop, a varied crowd and easy on the purse strings. Drawbacks: the singletons tend to stick with the Hoxton Hipster type, playing an instrument or knowing at least three "cool" bands is to your advantage. Tips: dress accordingly but don't end up looking like an E4 presenter they can smell it on you.
Is the West Best?
If your haircut isn't cool enough for Shoreditch kids, your taste less artistically inclined and, ahem, at the end of the day your pockets deeper the long King's Road may be more your clime. Start at Parson's green where four bars full of professionals looking to let loose dot Parson's Green. Aragon House and Amuse Bouche are great places to start a repertoire with groups of the opposite sex looking to unwind and typically both are full of them. After you're spirits are lifted jump in a cab just down the Kings Road to Embargo 59 or Crazy Larrys where the younger professional crowd pick up to cheese laden music in plush peace. Or, alternatively head a little further off the Kings Road to Boujis where the nouveau riche (or at least those pretending to be) mix with celebrities, royalty and models.
Benefits: Models, Royalty and Celebrities, plush surroundings, beautiful creatures. Drawbacks: Long ques, posturing, and yes you just spent £200 on a moderately priced round. Tips: Dress pearls and Prada shoes darling, consult your bank account.
What's a nice girl like you doing in seedy Central London?
Tourist traps abound but tucked away in central you can still find a great place for the pick up. Avoid Leicester Square like the plague, unless of course, over priced drinking holes and casinos are your tipple. Head to Covent Garden and grab a drink or a few in American favourite Belushi's where you can work the English accent before staggering into Sway which is typically full of a new batch of fresh singletons every night. Alternatively, there is of course Soho where you can hit the wide variety of gay and lesbian bars including a staple on the gay scene The Friendly Society. Or alternatively pick up a mean cocktail at the famous French House which once served as an unofficial headquarters for the French Resistance, something that no doubt you will be hoping against. Of course, if worse comes to worst, for the guys there are peep shows that only cost a worrying £2, and for the girls there are shops that stay open almost all night. It's a win, win scenario.
Benefits: So many choices of bars and clubs that stay open all night, diverse and interesting crowd. Drawbacks: Too much to do and see, hen and stag party central, crowded. Tips: MAKE A PLAN or you'll spend more time on the street then in a bar. Avoid the club reps trying to drag you into empty places.
The Chains and London's Best Pick Up Place
If you operate best in a familiar setting then the many chain clubs and pubs that are spread throughout London may be your best bet. Zebranos typically mixes a nice cocktail of people while Walkabout carries with it the care free Aussie attitude and cheap drinks that simply guarantees hedonism. But if it's London's best pick up place that you are after then it is to Clapham High Street that you should head and the delightfully disgusting Infernos. For those of you that know it, you will be shaking your heads in shame, but for those of you who don't and are looking for the hands down best place to pick up someone in London it is the aptly named Infernos. You can't put your finger on it; the cheesey music, the bizarre décor that includes fake stuffed gorillas in glass cages, the audacious drink prices. But on a Friday and especially a Saturday night packed on two levels you will find a collection of the most care free and approachable people that London has to offer. Sure some may call it a cattle market, and sure they are right, but its arguably London's best (easiest) pick up place and long live the king
Benefits: familiarity and London's best pick up place. Drawbacks: Shame, confusion, and surprisingly cost. Tips: a pulse typically suffices.

Shoreditch is East London not north and the French House is a pub not somewhere you'd order a cocktail -- have you even been to London????

Isn't Shoreditch technically north-east?
