If you’re looking for a woman who will love and respect you indefinitely, choose an Italian girl. But it’s not always rainbows and butterflies. You have to prove that you deserve the kind of love that we can give.
1. Italians believe in old-school manners.
Chivalry is not dead in Italy and the fact that we’ve crossed the pond doesn't change much for us. We expect our men to open the door for us, to pull out our chair at dinner, and to get the check on the first date.
2. So a homemade meal is the fastest way to our hearts.
Food is number one in our book. Not only do we know how to make a mean lasagna, but we’re not afraid to devour the entire thing in front of you. But, keep in mind, when we’re in the kitchen it’s best not to comment on how or what we’re cooking.
After all, we know best and, we’re not afraid to tell you so.
3. But you won't stay in our hearts long if you can't dress the part.
We know style. Actually, we are style. You’ll never see an Italian woman looking like a rag doll, I can assure you of that. It's no wonder that Milan is one of the world's biggest fashion capitals.
4. We’re more than happy to take a joke, as long as you can take one back.
Unlike some, we know how to take a joke, even if it’s at our own expense. Just be prepared to reciprocate because we’ve got a few witty remarks up our sleeve and we’re not afraid to shoot them your way.
5. But don't try to make light of our families.
It is very likely that you will meet our entire family on your first trip to our house, and it will probably overwhelm you. The kitchen will smell amazing and be full of women – our grandmother, mother, aunts, and all of our sisters.
The living room will be full of men – our grandfather, father, uncles, cousins, and brothers –and they’ll all be watching and critiquing every move you make. No pressure.
6. We’re passionate in love, hate and... basically everything.
We are an intense, passionate people at heart. We can go from laughing at something you said to erratically smacking you in the face, to fiercely kissing you in a matter of seconds. It will drive you crazy – crazy in love.
7. But that passion makes us capable of almost anything.
Our mothers trained us to be the best we could be at anything and everything there was to be good at. Ever since we were little, our mothers told us that we're living in a man’s world, and by doing so she made us into strong and independent women.
She taught us everything she knew and worked her ass off to make a better life for us.
8. Wine. Wine wine wine wine wine wine.
At the beginning of each week, we buy at least five bottles of wine. We have wine with lunch while cooking dinner, with dinner, after dinner, etc. For us, there can never be too much vino.
9. We want our friends to like you.
It’s important to us if our girlfriends like you or not. If they don’t like you, well, we may have to break up.
