eHarmony solved all my dating problems. No, this isn’t a cheesy commercial set to over-the-top upbeat 1980’s music. It all started when I signed up and used this eHarmony promo codes which saved me 87% off a 3-month subscription.  Considering how I had just saved money by using a coupon code, I figured a 3 month trial was worth my effort.

For as long as I can remember, I have been a chronic user of the online dating sites. I started off with Yahoo Personals in the early 2000’s, switched to Match.com in 2012 and then finally made the move to eHarmony earlier this year.

Why eharmony? And more importantly, why use a coupon?

When I was in my early 20’s, all I wanted to do was date. I didn’t want a relationship nor did I want anything serious. As such I steered clear of sites that promised they would find me the love of my life. I didn’t even know who I was at that point in time, how on earth would I be able to find my soulmate?

After 10 years of flings, dings, and things – I decided to get serious about finding someone to date seriously.

By now I was in my early 30’s and knew what I did – and more importantly “did not” – want in a relationship partner. I had been on so many dates, I could instantly tell who was going to be a potential issue and who was just going to disappoint me.

eHarmony Profile

With lowered expectations in mind (let’s face it, I’m a glass is half empty kinda gal) I registered and began filling out my personal info. They asked me such questions as:

    – Education?

    – Ethnicity?

    – Smoker?

    – Income?

    – Do I want to start a family?

    – Religion?

And so on and so forth. Pretty basic stuff and it gave me the opportunity to tell eHarmony exactly who and what I was looking for. For example, I’m an ex-smoker and dating a guy that smokes cigarettes is a total deal breaker. No way, Jose.

After the basic info, the real heart and soul of the eHarmony matchmaking system presented itself. I was asked a series of multiple choice questions. At first they seemed like they repeated every so often. I later learned from a psychologist friend that they do this to look at certain aspects of your personality – including whether or not you are trustworthy. By wording certain questions slightly different they can tell if you’re honest and truthful in your answers.

Personality questionnaire results

15 minutes later and I had finished the personality questionnaire. It took their system a few seconds to process and it gave me the option of viewing my matches or seeing my personality profile. “Screw the matches, I want to see what they think about me” was my only thought.

As it turns out, I’m a pretty run-of-the-mill 30 year old single female looking for love.  I tend to be too trusting at times, and other times I can be very cautious about new people I meet. I also am a hopeless romantic, throwing caution to the wind and giving anyone a chance.

When it comes to looks in a guy – I’m somewhat forgiving.

Somewhat.

Let’s face it, I’m 30 and not getting any younger – so if a guy has a small beer belly and whatever else – I can make an exception. But there are certain things that I wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole.

For example, I’m not into married guys. I won’t date players. If the first picture on your eHarmony dating profile is you with your shirt off – next!  I have been using online dating sites for well over 10 years and a huge red flag is a guy whose first picture is of him with his shirt off. He’s trying to distract from the fact that he’s either a massive asshole or is a controlling jerk.

eHarmony Coupons

Before I go any further with my review, I have to talk a little bit about the various coupon codes out there for eHarmony.  I went to VeggieMatchMakers.com to find the eHarmony coupon that actually worked. It took me almost 30 minutes to find a working promotional code, as sites like RetailMeNot and SlickDeals did not have a working coupon code for eHarmony. After a few minutes of searching, I finally stumbled onto VeggieMatchMakers and their eHarmony code worked the first time around.

I should also note that there are many different types of coupons:

    – 73% off 12 month subscription

    – One Month Free

    – Free Communication Weekend

    – 3 months for $19.95/month

I went with the 3 month subscription coupon because 3 months is long enough to see if eHarmony really works. I have heard some people say that looking for true love on an online dating site requires at least a 1  year commitment.  I have heard others say that if you can’t find what you’re looking for in one month, then you should look elsewhere.  I decided to take my chances and as far as I’m concerned, 3 months is long enough to go out on dates and meet new people.

The eHarmony Dating Process

So after I saw my matches and decided on which ones I would talk to, something called “guided communication” began. The guy who I wanted to talk to had to answer a few of my questions, and I had to answer a few of his questions. They gave me the option to use a pre-canned response, or write my own words. I decided to write my own words because it would give him a sense of my personality when he read them. Otherwise how else would we pre-screen each other?

The guided communication process takes about 4-5 days on average. Sometimes quicker, sometimes slower. It really depends on how quickly the other person responds to my questions and vice versa. I signed up a month ago and have since found a guy that I’m currently dating.

We are in a open relationship as we’re only going out on dates.  I can’t say for sure whether the guy that I’m dating is my soul mate. All I can say so far is that I’m having a great time dating him.

And that saved me from the cesspools of meeting guys in bars and other places.
